Games of Thrones to get season 6 aftershow titled After the Thrones

April 4, 2016 by Justin Cook

Following in the footsteps of such Chris Hardwick-hosted shows as Talking Dead and Talking Saul, which both air after new episodes of The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, respectively, Games of Thrones will be getting its own aftershow for season 6. Titled After the Thrones, the show will be available each week on Monday after brand new Game of Thrones episodes on Sunday. Season 6 begins on April 24th, so episode one of the aftershow is pegged for an April 25th release. All of HBO’s streaming services, HBO NOW, HBO GO and HBO On Demand, are set to carry the program.

Grantland creator and sports personality Bill Simmons partnered with HBO last year, and After the Thrones marks their first collaboration together under the deal. Simmons will executive produce the show alongside Eric Weinberger, president of BSMG.

Simmons has brought Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, two writers/podcasters who provide content for the former ESPN columnist’s new site The Ringer, on board to host the show. Greenwald and Ryan have a great deal of experience talking about Thrones, as both hosted a podcast together called Watch the Thrones.

HBO unveiled a new poster for the show and an official plot synopsis, both of which can be seen below…

Each week, AFTER THE THRONES will recap the latest episode, explaining the who, what, when and where, exploring the complicated politics and history of “Thrones,” and offering absurd and not-so-absurd theories about future episodes.
