Gawker v. Thiel movie will explore the downfall of Gawker

March 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In 2016, Hulk Hogan dropped his signature leg drop on celebrity gossip blog Gawker and earned the biggest win of his career when he was granted a $140 million judgment against parent company Gawker Media after the site’s publication of a sex tape featuring the pro-wrestling legend.

Hogan’s case – and several others – had been funded by billionaire venture capitalist Peter Thiel, who was looking to bring down Gawker after the site publicly outed him as a gay man in a 2007 article.

Well, it seems that story is set to play out on the big screen, with Variety reporting that Jason Winer (Modern Family, Ode to Joy) is set to direct Gawker v. Thiel, from a script by John Gary (Sarah, Off-World). Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (Chicago, The Bucket List) are producing.

Apparently, Hogan’s court case will not be at the forefront of the film, which will instead focus on the people behind-the-scenes, including Thiel, Gawker Media owner Nick Denton, and website editor A.K. Daulerio, who published the leaked sex tape.
