George Clooney returning to space for Legendary’s Buck Rogers series

January 29, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Having been thrown around the stars in Gravity and stared up at them with a giant beard in The Midnight Sky, it appears that George Clooney’s affinity with space is set to continue, with the announcement that he could be journeying to the 25th Century for Legendary’s Buck Rogers series.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Clooney and his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov will develop the project, but that they’re also considering Buck Rogers as a star vehicle for the actor.

Legendary are currently working with Y: The Last Man and LOST writer Brian K. Vaughn on a limited series, but there are hopes that this will spin-off into an anime adventure and feature film if the initial run is a success.

The series has Flint Dille, the grandson of the original Buck Rogers creator on-board, alongside Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, who have Shoot Em Up and Reel Steel on their resume.

First appearing in a 1928 publication of Amazing Stories, Buck Rogers is fondly remembered for a short-lived 70s adaptation that introduced the world to his metallic companion Twiki and know-it-all computer Dr. Theopolis. Let it be said that if they aren’t included in this iteration, then you might as well cancel the entire thing.

Would you be excited about seeing Buck Rogers brought to life by George Clooney, or is it something best left in the 20th Century? Let us know what you think using our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
