Godzilla vs. Kong to begin filming in October

February 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In 2020, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. will be bringing two of cinema’s biggest monsters together for a clash of epic proportions in Godzilla vs. Kong.

The film – part of the studios’ shared ‘MonsterVerse’ of Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island – is being directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next), and according to Omega Underground, production is slated to get underway in Atlanta on October 1st, running through to February of 2019.

Kong vs. Godzilla isn’t set for release until May 22nd 2020, but given the amount of effects we can expect as the two titans face off, a long post-production schedule is completely understandable and it’s reassuring that Wingard and his VFX team will have plenty of time to work their magic.

Before he battles Kong, Godzilla will be going up against three of his most iconic foes in Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which opens in March 2019.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species — thought to be mere myths — rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set for release on March 22nd, 2019 and sees Michael Dougherty (Krampus) directing returning Godzilla stars Sally Hawkins (Dr. Vivienne Graham) and Ken Watanabe (Dr. Ishiro Serizawa), and new additions Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Zhang Ziyi (The Grandmaster), Randy Havens (Stranger Things) and Elizabeth Ludlow (The Walking Dead).
