Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reaches $800 million at the global box office

June 1, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is rocketing up the box office ranks, as the movie has now reached a figure of $800 million worldwide.

Having only been in cinemas for less than a month, this number is quite impressive, and means that the film is now the fifth MCU entry to cross the $800 million mark.

Other movies to have reached the milestone include The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Iron Man 3.

It is the 62nd movie ever to make it to $800 million, helped in large amount by its $98 million take from China – the film’s top market outside the U.S. The U.K is also the film’s second biggest market outside America, bringing the film $47 million so far.

The blockbuster’s figures contain $342.7 million from the USA and $454.7 internationally.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has also outgrossed its predecessor, which grossed $773 million.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out now and sees director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tullk and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar.
