While Danny Boyle waits to see if he’ll get to finish his 28 Years Later trilogy, the Academy Award winning director is lining up yet another media-mogul biopic by casting Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) and Jack O’Connell (Sinners) in his Rupert Murdoch movie Ink.
Having successfully depicted what made Apple head-honcho Steve Jobs tick in his really-rather-good 2015 biopic, Boyle will turn his attention towards the building of the Murdoch Empire, with Deadline reporting that Pearce will play the controversial businessman, while O’Connell is onboard as Larry Lamb, who the mogul hired to run The Sun newspaper in 1969.
Ink has been adapted by James Graham from his play of the same name, and is described as an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news – one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.
The film will chronicle the rise of NewsCorp, and the long-running rivalry between The Sun and The Mirror, two of Britain’s leading red-top newspapers. Production will get underway in October.
Pearce is coming off the back of his Oscar nominated performance in The Brutalist, while Ink would be a quick reunion for O’Connell and Boyle following this summer’s 28 Years Later, in which the actor made an unforgettable cameo appearance to set up Nia DaCosta’s 2026 sequel.
