Han Solo Star Wars spinoff movie will be set 10 years before A New Hope

January 7, 2016 by Justin Cook

Warning: This post contains some minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Proceed with caution…

While there are many exciting future Star Wars projects that will be hitting theaters in the years to come, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode VIII, perhaps none is quite as promising as the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed Han Solo standalone film. Information on the film is scarce, but while speaking at the Directors Guild of America, The Force Awakens and Han Solo: A Star Wars Story scribe Lawrence Kasdan revealed that the film will be set 10 years before 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Kasdan said, “[The film] will not be, ‘Here’s where he was born and this is how he was raised.’ I think what it will be is what was he like 10 years earlier [than A New Hope]—maybe a little earlier, you’ll get a glimpse. But Kurosawa once said the heroes are the ones that are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they are, and Harrison embodies in Force Awakens someone who is still not settled on who he is.”
