Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter returning for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars

April 7, 2025 by Gary Collinson

With Marvel Studios teasing further announcements after its mammoth Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal last month, it seems we can now add one more name to the roster of the Russo brothers’ next superhero epic.

As reported in a feature at The Hollywood Reporter exploring recent deals from Hollywood’s top legal firms, MCU veteran Hayley Atwell is said to have officially signed on to reprise the role of Peggy Carter in both Doomsday and 2027 follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars.

After making her debut as World War II heroine Peggy Carter in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Atwell has went on to reprise her role on numerous occasions, appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Avengers: Endgame, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Marvel’s What If…?, along with the Marvel Television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

It’s unclear what kind of role Peggy will play in the films, but given the multiverse aspect, another live-action outing for Captain Carter could surely be on the cards following her cameo in the Doctor Strange sequel – an appearance Atwell found “frustrating” and felt that it didn’t “really serve Peggy very well”.

Officially confirmed for the cast of Avengers: Doomsday are Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barners/Winter Soldier), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/US Agent), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy/Beast), Lewis Pullman (Bob/Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkholme/Mystique), James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops), Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau/Gambit) and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic).

Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on May 1st 2026.
