After a global open casting call that saw over 30,000 youngsters auditioning, HBO has found its trio of stars for its Harry Potter TV series with the news that Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the upcoming TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said showrunner Francesa Gardiner and director and executive producer Mark Mylod. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The young actors step into the roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in Warner Bros.’ hugely successful feature film series, and join the previously announced new cast members John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The Harry Potter TV series is set to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books into its own season, with filming on the first season slated to get underway this summer. It was originally believed to be targeting a 2026 premiere, although its unclear at the moment whether that may slip to 2027.
