December 31, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Now that the curtain is falling on 2014, Deadline has posted an in depth piece looking at how the Hollywood studios fared at the domestic U.S. box office these past twelve months, with hits such as X-Men: Days of Future Past and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes helping to propel 20th Century Fox ahead of the competition with combined receipts of $1.77 billion.

Here’s how the Big Six shaped up, along with their three biggest releases:

1. 20th Century Fox – $1.77 billion
(X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, How To Train Your Dragon 2)

2. Disney – $1.59 billion
(Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Maleficent)

3. Warner Bros. – $1.54 billion
(The LEGO Movie, Godzilla, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies)

4. Sony – $1.28 billion
(The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 22 Jump Street, The Equalizer)

5. Universal Pictures – $1.10 billion
(Neighbors, Ride Along, Lucy)

6. Paramount Pictures – $1.04 billion
(Transformers: Age of Extinction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Interstellar)

Meanwhile, Lionsgate failed to hit a billion, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Divergent contributing to a total haul of $730.2 million.
