Horizon Zero Dawn series heading to Netflix, Gran Turismo TV show also in the works

May 26, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Sony looks to expand itself more into live-action Hollywood entertainment, and the company could now have one of its best chances ever.

During an Investor meeting, Sony president Jim Ryan revealed during a Q&A that the company is planning even more ventures in the world of Hollywood. The previously announced God of War is heading to Amazon, and we now know that PlayStation titles Horizon Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo will also see live-action adaptations.

While Gran Turismo, a racing series, hasn’t landed a distributor yet, it’s confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn will head to Netflix in the coming years. The adaptation of the hit video game and its sequel is already in development with the streamer.

Horizon Zero Dawn was an instant hit on the Playstion in 2017, leading it to win numerous awards and eventually sold over 20 million copies by February 2022, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games. The sequel Horizon Forbidden West was released this year and received favorable reviews. Sales were strong, with Japan seeing substantial numbers and becoming the best-selling game digitally during the week of release in the UK.

In the games, you play as Aloy, a hunter who ventures through a post-apocalyptic land ruled by robotic creatures. The official synopsis of the first game reads, “In a world where Machines dominate the earth, and mankind lives on in primitive tribal societies, one woman sets out to find her destiny among the remnants of the ancient past.” The Netflix series should follow a similar plot while attempting to flesh out more of the surroundings.

At this time, no creative staff has been announced—no word on if voice actress Ashly Burch will also star as Aloy as well.
