House Party remake finds its director

September 23, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Calmatic, the MTV Video Music Award-winning director of ‘Old Town Road’, is set to make his feature directorial debut with a remake of the cult 1990 comedy House Party from New Line Cinema.

The original film was directed by Reginald Hudlin and starred Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin of the hip hop duo Kid ‘N Play. A critical and commercial success, the film spawned two theatrical sequels in 1991 and 1994, along with straight-to-video follow-ups in 2001 and 2013.

The remake was originally announced back in February of last year, with NBA superstar LeBron James producing through his SpringHill Entertainment company and the Emmy-nominated Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori (Atlanta) penning the script.
