Hugh Jackman and James Mangold on aging Wolverine and Professor X in Logan

February 2, 2017 by Robert Kojder

In a recent interview with Empire both Hugh Jackman and Logan director James Mangold talked about some of the meticulous little details that went into visually presenting both Wolverine and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X as much older and weaker mutants in the upcoming X-Men solo movie.

Jackman explained how he received a tip from Jim Broadbent, stating: “When he was playing older, [Broadbent] would tape a little stone to his heel. I would have that, just to remind myself of a limp. [Logan’s] body hurts. His joints hurt. His heart hurts. Psychologically, he’s damaged. What’s the collateral damage of being Wolverine for all those years?”

Meanwhile, Mangold discussed Professor X, adding that: “The theory was that he originally lost all his hair because it’s just too damn busy [in his head] to grow hair – the idea for me was, well, maybe there’s a little fringe on there, because things are slowing down mentally.”

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan is being helmed by The Wolverine director James Mangold and will see Hugh Jackman joined in the cast by Patrick Stewart as Professor X, along with new additions Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal. It is set for release on March 1st in the UK and March 3rd in North America.
