Hugo Weaving joins Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines

April 13, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It looks like Peter Jackson is pulling a Lord of the Rings alumni on board for his newest film, as we now have confirmation that Hugo Weaving has joined the cast of Mortal Engines. Weaving is reportedly playing the character Thaddeus Valentine, Head of the Historians, who is a pivotal character in the first book.

Weaving is known for many films including The Matrix Trilogy, V for Vendetta, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and Captain America: The First Avenger. He was also the voice of Megatron in Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise.

Mortal Engines is the first book in a series of four young adult novels by author Philip Reeve. The books take place following the events of the “60 Minute War”, set in a future world where cities now move on massive wheels, and attack each other for control over earth’s diminishing resources. It is against this backdrop that city resident Tom Natsworthy meets a mysterious woman from “The Outlands”.

Mortal Engines is set for a December 18, 2018 release. It is being directed by Jackson’s protégé Christian Rivers and features a cast that includes Hera Hilmar, Stephen Lang, Leila George and Jihae.
