Hulu orders horror anthology series from Blumhouse Television

January 13, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Variety is reporting that Hulu is looking to add to its Originals slate with a new horror anthology series from Blumhouse Television.

The as-yet-untitled series will consist of 12 episodes, all standalone stories, which may connect via “some narrative device or structural device”. The first episode is set to air in October, with subsequent episodes airing on a monthly basis.

“At the heart of the deal is an extremely passionate audience and an extremely activateable audience in terms of horror,” states Hulu’s chief content officer Joel Stillerman. “It’s not even the larger bucket of ‘genre.’ I would say this falls squarely into the horror bucket. And it’s brought to us by, I would say in many ways that would be hard to argue, the consummate producers in that genre today.”

“We think this is an innovation,” added Marci Wiseman, co-president of Blumhouse Television. “We haven’t split the atom. But Hulu’s commitment to create episodic installments of an anthology series and to event-ize each of them — you don’t get that kind of commitment from partners very often, and we’re really excited and enthused.”

In addition to the anthology series, Blumhouse Television has several other projects on its slate, including a TV spinoff from the hit horror franchise The Purge, as well as a pilot for a Tremors TV series starring Kevin Bacon.
