Ian McShane teases his Game of Thrones role

November 14, 2015 by Thomas Roach

In August it was revealed that Ian McShane had joined the cast of season 6 of Game of Thrones, and while his role remains undisclosed there has been much speculation from fans. Now the actor has given a hint at who he will be playing in the upcoming season, speaking to PopGoesTheNews whilst promoting his latest film The Hollow Point.

“I’ll give you one hint, I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that.”

***SPOILERS***

Most likely McShane is referring to Sandor Clegane, played by Rory McCann. We assumed that The Hound had died from his wounds he received during his encounter with Brienne, but in the books it is thought that he is still alive and living as a character called the Gravedigger at the monastery on the Quiet Isle. McShane is likely playing the Elder Brother of the monastery, who is unnamed in the books.

***END SPOILER***

McShane also stated that he would only be appearing in one episode, adding that: “[It’s] a one-off episode, that’s why I did it. But I can’t reveal anything, otherwise I will never work again.”

Season six of Game of Thrones will get underway in the Spring. Follow all of our coverage here.
