IMAX confirms release dates for X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants

August 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last week, a rather dubious rumour started circulating online, claiming that – given the impending takeover by Disney, and the rumoured issues with both movies – that 20th Century Fox had decided to scrap its release plans for both X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.

Well, if that is the case, it seems Fox has forgotten to tell IMAX, as the company has unveiled its upcoming schedule of IMAX releases as part of its quarterly earnings report, and this includes both X-Men movies, set for release in February 2019 and August 2019 respectively.

This is the second piece of evidence that suggests the original rumour about Fox scrapping the movies was bogus, following a report over the weekend that reshoots on Dark Phoenix will be getting underway in Montreal this month.

It is expected that by August 2019, Disney’s takeover of Fox will have already gone through, so it is technically still possible that the Mouse House may opt against releasing The New Mutants, but at this point in time it seems that it’s business as usual on both movies.
