Isao Takahata’s Grave of the Fireflies set for theatrical release in August as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2018

July 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

GKIDS and Fathom Events have announced that Studio Ghibli Fest 2018 will continue this August with Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Isao Takahata’s anime masterpiece Grave of the Fireflies, which is set to screen nationwide in the U.S. as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.

As the Empire of the Sun crumbles upon itself and a rain of firebombs falls upon Japan, the final death march of a nation is echoed in millions of smaller tragedies. This is the story of Seita and his younger sister Setsuko, two children forced to fend for themselves in the aftermath of fires that swept entire cities from the face of the earth. Their struggle is a tribute to the human spirit.

Grave of the Fireflies will screen in its digitally remastered and restored format at the following times:

  • Sunday, August 12th at 12:55 p.m. local time (English-language dubbed)
  • Monday, August 13th at 7:00 p.m. local time (English-language subtitled)
  • Wednesday, August 15th at 7:00 p.m. local time (English-language dubbed)

Tickets for “Grave Of The Fireflies” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or www.GhibliFest.com and at participating theater box offices.
