Ishana Night Shyamalan follows in father’s footsteps, sets debut film The Watchers

February 15, 2023 by EJ Moreno

When your father is one of the most well-known filmmakers working today, it’s hard not to stumble into the industry. The journey has been exciting for Ishana Night Shyamalan, and she is set to take off in a new direction.

Deadline reports Shyamalan will helm The Watchers, a new thriller that New Line is fast-tracking. This marks M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter’s feature directorial debut, where she’ll adapt the A.M. Shine novel of the same name. M. Night Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan will produce through Blinding Edge Pictures.

The Watchers follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers that are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.

“We couldn’t be more excited to make Ishana’s first film with The Watchers. Equal parts visual, immersive, and terrifying, the script grips you from the first page and never lets go,” said Richard Brener, President and Chief Creative Officer of New Line Cinema.

Ishana Night Shyamalan is best known for her work on Servant, M. Night’s critically acclaimed show on Apple TV+. At the time, she was one of the youngest-ever series writers/directors beginning at age 19; Ishana has written or co-written ten episodes and directed six episodes, including two season finale. She also led the second unit for Old and Knock at the Cabin, the two most recent films from M. Night Shyamalan.

The Watchers is set for a June 7th, 2024, global theatrical release.
