It Follows to get a sequel? Distributor Radius-TWC has “thought about it”

April 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With its stellar release thus far on both sides of the pond ($9.45 million grossed already in the US alone), David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows is the indie-horror sensation of 2015 to date, and it seems the producers are already considering a sequel, with Tom Quinn, co-president of Radius-TWC, stating that: “I don’t want to give away too much, but we’ve thought about it. Flip the title. There’s so much you could do.”

So, Follow It? A sequel that follows the origins of the “presence” in the film through generations of sexual histories to the true source of it all? That remains to be seen, and it works in logistical terms, but as with many horror films of recent years, It Follows works so well because it is a singular entity, a film that was never intended to have a sequel or even “dreaded” franchise.

But a sequel is all specualation at this point, particularly as director Mitchell is busy with other things right now, having previously told Vulture that:”I have a lot of different kinds of projects in many different genres, so I don’t know that a sequel would be the next thing that I would do, but I’m certainly open to it. I just kinda want to see how things play out.”

Would star Maika Monroe join the sequel too? “I don’t know where the story would go, but I would love to work with David, the director, again, because I think he’s incredible, and what he created here was something else,” she says. “We’ll see how it does. Maybe! Maybe!”

It Follows is still in cinemas across the UK and the US, and you can read our ★★★★★ review here.
