J.J. Abrams’ supernatural D-Day film Overlord finds a director

February 2, 2017 by Samuel Brace

World War II to seems to be back in fashion of late with Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge receiving a lot of praise and Christopher Nolan’s much anticipated drama Dunkirk arriving this summer. And now the D-Day film from J.J. Abrams has found its director.

Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) will be the film’s director for Paramount and Bad Robot, as Variety reports. Variety’s sources also indicate that the casting process is already underway.

The story of Overlord revolves around two paratroopers who land behind enemy lines during D-Day and are forced to not just fight against Nazis but supernatural forces as well.

The Nazi secret experiment/occult shtick has been done before of course, but a big production like this with the producing talent of Abrams behind it should lead to something worth keeping an eye on.
