J.K. Rowling to attend special charity performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

May 12, 2016 by Kirsty Capes

Some good news for Harry Potter fans who didn’t manage to snap up some Cursed Child theatre tickets. J. K. Rowling has announced a special charity performance of her new play – which is set in the Wizarding World some years after the end of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s adventures in The Deathly Hallows –  which the famously reclusive author will attend herself.

The showing, which takes place on 18th September 2016, is in aid of Rowling’s charity Lumos, which provides aid and opportunities to children living in institutions due to poverty or disability. Fans hoping for tickets have been invited to bid on special ‘packages’, which include tickets to the two-part show as well as special Potter collectibles, such as a rare fabric map of Hogwarts, a poster signed by the cast of the play, scripts and other goodies.

Fans on a budget might be disappointed, though, as the cheapest tickets for the special charity gala performance start at a whopping £100, and go all the way up to £400. You can bid on them here.

J. K. Rowling announced on her Twitter this morning that she, too, will be attending the showing in September. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child commences preview performances at the Palace Theatre in Soho, London, from 7th June and will be open to the public right through to 2017.
