Jake Gyllenhaal to produce and star in video game adaptation of The Division

June 2, 2016 by Luke Owen

Ubisoft Motion Pictures kicks off their film slate at the end of this year with Assassin’s Creed, but they’re not waiting to see if that’s a box office success before they plan future movies.

Along with the announcement a couple of weeks ago that Tom Hardy was still attached to Splinter Cell, Variety announced that Ubisoft will work with Jake Gyllenhaal to produce and star in an adaptation of their latest game The Division, which has become one of their fastest-selling titles [read our review of it here].

Variety reports that Ubisoft will look to add one more name to the movie before they take it to studios. Assassin’s Creed is currently with 20th Century Fox while Splinter Cell is with Paramount.

“A devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City, and one by one, basic services fail. In only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, a classified unit of self-supported tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, The Division agents are trained to operate independently of command, as all else fails.”

The Division will be the third movie from Ubisoft Motion Pictures, and they also have plans for Ghost Recon and Watch Dogs.
