James Gunn already writing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gamora to have more significant role

May 4, 2017 by Ricky Church

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 getting its North American release this weekend, nearly everyone has their minds on Marvel’s cosmic band of misfit heroes and what lies ahead for them. Earlier today James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will take place after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, and now USA Today has also revealed he’s already at work on the franchise’s third film.

According to the site, he has had “pretty intense conversations” with actors Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, who portray Star-Lord and Gamora respectively. In Saldana’s case, her role is said to be much more significant in the third film that it has been in the previous two. The film’s release is still a long way away, though, giving Gunn some time to focus on another project in the interim. As for what exactly he’ll do, he says it will be a much more relaxing film to “get my head on straight after three years of waking up and going to sleep and thinking about a talking raccoon.”

As for their role in Avengers: Infinity War and most likely in Avengers 4, Pratt said the Guardians will be more like supporting players to the main Avengers: “We definitely will have a strong presence, but we are playing supporting cast – you know what I mean? We’re there to help them tell an awesome Infinity War story. But Guardians is cosmic. It is its own special off-shoot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sees director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tullk and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar.
