James Gunn confirms Wonder Woman reboot is “being written now”

June 11, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Have we all had enough time to recover from the Gal Gadot era of Wonder Woman? James Gunn sure hopes so, as he’s about to begin development on a new film.

As the head of DC Studios and the director kicking off this new DC films era with this year’s Superman, Gunn is involved with all things at the studio, and that includes overseeing the upcoming films. One of the current films being developed is a new take on Wonder Woman, with the Warrior Princess of Themyscira currently having a new movie in the works.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly in promoting Superman, James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is officially in development. “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” says the filmmaker.

Gunn also adds that “Wonder Woman’s a separate thing” to the already announced Paradise Lost series, which is “slow moving, but it’s moving.” Announced in 2023, Paradise Lost depicts “the genesis and political intrigue of an island of all women,” per the show’s official description.

This marks the second attempt at bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen, following Gal Gadot’s DC Extended Universe run as the character following her debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She’d follow this with her 2017 solo film, which earned $823M worldwide, as well as a divisive sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. She’d also appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

As yet, there’s no word as to any writer, director, or cast linked to the new Wonder Woman, but we’ll keep you updated. Meanwhile, along with Gunn’s Superman, The Flash director Andy Muschietti is currently slated to round out the Trinity by introducing the new DCU’s Dark Knight with Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
