James Gunn says Warner Bros. and DC offered him “whatever he wanted”

October 14, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn claims he was offered whatever he wanted by Warner Bros. but chose to do his version of The Suicide Squad.

While answering fan questions on Instagram Story, Gunn was asked if he was “offered another movie along with The Suicide Squad” when Warner Bros. approached him about turning his hand to the DC Universe.

“I was basically offered whatever I wanted,” Gunn explained. “I most wanted to do Squad.”

Production on Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has recently begun and is set to be released on 6th August 2021. The film features a cast that includes the returning Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) alongside new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, John Cena, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn.
