James Marsden open to Cyclops return when X-Men join the MCU

April 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Here’s one to file under “not going to happen”, but speaking to Comic Book, X-Men actor James Marsden has revealed that he’d like to reprise the role of Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, once the mutant superheroes make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Sure, I’d be down,” replied Marsden when asked whether he’s open to revisiting the world of the X-Men under Marvel Studios. “I think that world, there just are no rules. You can do whatever you want. If there’s some iteration down the line where we’re involved…that’s been a special thing to be a part of for a good period of my life and I love those fans and I love playing that character so, yeah, I’d be totally open to that.”

Marsden portrayed Cyclops in the original three X-Men movies, although his was killed off in short order in X-Men: The Last Stand after opting to reunite with outgoing director Bryan Singer for Superman Returns. He did however briefly reprise the role in 2014 for a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which we strongly suspect will be the final time we’ll see him in the role.

We may have a fairly lengthy wait before we see Cyclops and company sharing the screen with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has suggested this week on the press tour for Avengers: Endgame that “it will be a very long time” before the X-Men show up in the MCU.
