By the order of the Peaky Blinders, Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers) has been cast to lead the infamous crime family in the upcoming sequel series from creator Steven Knight. He will play Duke Shelby, the new head of the family, alongside fellow cast members Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Jessica Brown Findlay (Silo), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die) and Lucy Karczewski in her debut role.
Bell takes over the role of Duke from Conrad Khan in the final season of Peaky Blinders and Barry Keoghan in the recently released feature film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man which closed out the story of Duke’s father Tommy Shelby as played by Cillian Murphy in the series. The sequel will take place over a decade after the end of WWII as Birmingham and the rest of the UK are rebuilding after the massive damage done during the Nazi bombings. The official synopsis reads:
In this new era of Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.
“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s,” Knight said. “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”
The roles of Heaton, Findlay, Lynch and Karczewski are being kept under wraps while the Peaky Blinders sequel, which is yet to reveal its official title, has been given a two-season order of six episodes each.
