Jennifer Lawrence could re-team with Francis Lawrence for Red Sparrow

September 15, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Deadline is reporting that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is circling Red Sparrow, an adaptation of the espionage novel by Jason Matthews.

The project is set up at Fox and the studio hopes to re-team Lawrence with director Francis Lawrence, who has helmed three of the four Hunger Games films. Lawrence is apparently close to a deal after David Fincher (Gone Girl), who had expressed interest in the project, stepped aside.

The book is set in “contemporary Russia, and state intelligence officer Dominika Egorova struggles to survive in the cast-iron bureaucracy of post-Soviet intelligence. Drafted against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress in the service, Dominika is assigned to operate against Nathaniel Nash, a first-tour CIA officer who handles the agency’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. The two young intelligence officers collide in a charged atmosphere of trade craft, deception, and inevitably, a sexual attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America’s valuable mole in Moscow.”

American Hustle writer Eric Warren has written the script, with Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) working on rewrites.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the final part of the series, is released in cinemas on November 18th 2015.
