Jeremy Renner on rejecting Marvel’s Hawkeye season 2 offer: “Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over?”

May 3, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Jeremy Renner has been a big part of the Avengers movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time now. Since his debut in 2011’s Thor, Hawkeye has been one of the studio’s go-to heroes, and he even got his own spin-off Disney+ series. But the future of more Hawkeye, specifically a second season, seems up in the air as the actor has revealed a low-ball offer he was made to return.

Speaking with High Performance, the actor claims he was only offered half of what he made in the first season, stating: “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.'”

The actor implies that his near-fatal 2023 accident is a reason for the low-balling, adding, “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.”

For those who don’t remember, Renner was hospitalized for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries on Jan. 1, 2023, following a large snow plow weighing around 14,330 pounds that ran him over.

He says this is less of a Marvel issue and more of an overall issue at Disney: “This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it. Sadly, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I had to defend myself. I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you.”

“Just pay me what I made made the first season,” he adds. “So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”

At the time of writing, Jeremy Renner is not set to be included in Avengers: Doomsday, which boasts one of the biggest casts in the MCU to date.
