Jessica Jones showrunner compares season 2 to Dexter and teases relationship between Trish and Jessica

September 21, 2016 by Luke Owen

Originally published September 21, 2016. Updated December 16, 2019.

Shortly after Jessica Jones aired on Netflix late last year, a second season was announced but we still don’t have a release date. As far as we can tell, it will be out after The Defenders and possibly before the third season of Daredevil, but what can we expect?

“[Jessica] was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along and so in Season Two we can explore what’s possible for her moving forward,” Jessica Jones‘ showrunner Melissa Rosenberg told Empire. “I learned from working on Dexter that you can advance the character, but you never want to cure the character…that trauma is a huge part of who she is now.”

Rosenberg also confirmed that Luke Cage would not feature in the second season, which halts any plans they may have had to reflect their relationship from the comics. But that doesn’t mean Jones can’t have a relationship in her next solo outing.

“I feel like for me that’s what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends,” she says of Jones and Trish, “and I think they don’t have to become lovers—that being said, one never knows.”

With no Cage in the show, could we expect to see Trish take on her alter-ego role of Hellcat?
