Joel and Ethan Coen to write adaptation of crime novel Black Money, may also direct

August 5, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Variety has revealed that Joel and Ethan Cohen have signed on to write an adaptation of bestselling novel Black Money.

Black Money, written by Ross MacDonald in 1966, is being adapted for the screen by producer Joel Silver (Lethal Weapon), and it’s said that the Coens may yet direct the film, but a deal has yet to be in place.

The book “follows a private eye who’s hired by a betrayed lover to expose the man who ran off with his girlfriend, only to discover a major conspiracy at the root of the case.” MacDonald sadly died in 1983.

The Coens’ next film is the recently wrapped Hail Caesar!, which reunites the directors with George Clooney for a third time after O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Burn After Reading, and also stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
