Joel Kinnaman confirms Rick Flag return for The Suicide Squad

June 2, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Originally published June 2, 2019. Updated June 3, 2019.

Although James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was originally described as “a total reboot” of the 2016 movie, it’s become increasingly clear over the past couple of months that isn’t quite going to be the case.

Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) are already confirmed to reprise their roles from David Ayer’s movie, and now we can add Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag to that list, with Kinnaman revealing on Instagram that he’ll be back as the Task Force X leader.

Despite all of these returnees, The Suicide Squad will welcome a number of new faces into the DC Extended Universe. Idris Elba (Luther) and John Cena (Bumblebee) will play as-yet-unrevealed characters, with David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6th 2021.
