Joel Kinnaman describes The Suicide Squad as a comedy

October 28, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Joel Kinnaman is currently reprising his role as Rick Flag from 2016’s Suicide Squad in the James Gunn-directed follow-up The Suicide Squad, being one of only a handful of original cast members to get the call for the sequel.

Given that Gunn is now behind the wheel, taking over the franchise from original director David Ayer, it’s expected that The Suicide Squad will have a much lighter, more tongue-in-cheek tone than its predecessor, and Kinnaman has seemingly confirmed that during an interview with Variety.

“[Gunn’s] an incredible guy,” states the actor. “He’s written a fantastic script. It’s so funny, I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy. There are a lot of really funny people there. It’s like a learning experience. I’m around a lot of incredible funny people.”
