We are closer to the Community movie than ever before, even if now the only hurdle is the ongoing WGA Writers Strike.
We got confirmation that shooting was set to start, with a director circling the project, per the series star Joel McHale. The actor spoke to Variety recently and confirmed the news, providing fans with a long-awaited update.
“We had a shooting date coming up, which was going to be in the summer,” McHale told Variety. “And I think they were extremely close to — I mean, Dan is somebody that tweaks things, but, obviously, that’s all stopped.”
He continues, “But I think it was pretty darn close. It was close, the shoot date was coming up, and we were all excited to do it, and then the writers’ strike happened, which obviously put everything on hold, and rightfully so. The writers are asking for very reasonable things. Writers need to be paid properly.”
Little is known about the film, but last we’ve heard, Dan Harmon was actively trying to get the entire cast to return – including Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown.
McHale backs up that testament: “I agree with Dan in that he’s going to get everybody on board.”
