Joey King and Brent Spiner join the cast of Independence Day 2

April 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The cast of Independence Day 2 has swelled further this week, with director Roland Emmerich revealing via Twitter that actress Joey King (Oz The Great and Powerful, Wish I Was Here) has joined the sequel, as well as confirming the return of Brent Spiner, who featured in the 1996 original as Dr. Brackish Okun.

The duo will join a cast that already includes Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Travis Tope, as well as the returning Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox. Bill Pullman is also rumoured to reprise his role as President James Whitmore.

Set to start production in May, Independence Day 2 is written by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, with rewrites from James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Carter Blanchard (G vs E), and produced by Devlin and Harald Kloser.

Independence Day 2 opens June 24th 2016.
