John Boyega and Robert De Niro set to star in Netflix thriller The Formula

January 26, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Deadline reports that John Boyega and Robert De Niro will team up to star in an upcoming thriller film for Netflix. The Formula will be helmed by Gerard McMurray, the filmmaker behind one of Netflix’s first original films Burning Sands.

McMurray (The First Purge) will serve as the film’s writer and director as well as producing through his Buppie Productions company. De Niro will also serve as another of the film’s producers.

The Formula will follow a Formula One racing prodigy who is forced to become a getaway driver to save the only family he has left. Boyega will reportedly star as the racing prodigy, while De Niro’s role is still undisclosed. Could he be the one behind forcing this racer to become a getaway driver?

The marks the first time John Boyega will star in a project for Netflix. Boyega is fresh off his starring role in the critically acclaimed anthology film series Small Axe, where he was featured in the Red, White and Blue installment. Robert De Niro is returning to Netflix after starring in the Oscar-nominated Martin Scorsese film The Irishman.
