John Boyega says Star Wars: The Last Jedi sends Carrie Fisher off “in a very amazing way”

August 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

John Boyega is currently out an about on the press rounds for his new film Detroit, but with Star Wars: The Last Jedi on the horizon, he’s naturally fielding a number of questions about the hotly-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Speaking to Peter Travers on Popcorn Talk, Boyega has been discussing Carrie Fisher’s role in The Last Jedi in the wake of her passing this past December.

“We have many scenes in [The Last Jedi], in this one coming up,” said Boyega. “This movie, it sends her off in a very amazing, amazing way. She’s still kept alive in this franchise and that’s the beauty of it. She lives forever, in a sense.”

Boyega also talked about his friendship with Fisher, and how he heard about her passing: “It was amazing. I mean, you get to know someone, and the gloss and the glamour of the person starts to go away and you just see the person and have a great time. We really enjoyed each other’s company. I was in Nigeria when we found out [about her death] with family. It was a strange, strange feeling. I felt like everyone in the cast went silent for a bit after that.”
