John Krasinski says “Hell Yeah” when asked if he’d play Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four

June 1, 2021 by Gary Collinson

From the moment that Marvel’s Kevin Feige first teased the introduction of the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a section of the fanbase has been calling – nay, demanding – the casting of real life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in the roles of Reed Richards and Susan Storm, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic and The Invisible Woman.

While Blunt has distanced herself from the speculation, Krasinski on the other hand has welcomed it, admitting in a recent interview that he’d been keen to take on the role. As you’d expect, that generated a tonne of headlines, and now he’s spoken about his genuine interest in joining Marvel’s First Family when asked by Uproxx whether it was just a promotional tactic for his new film A Quiet Place Part II.

“I didn’t even think of that. But now you make me sound really smart,” said Krasinski. “I actually felt stupid. I wanted to email Kevin Feige and be like, ‘Sorry, man. I wasn’t trying to like put pressure on you. You’re the man.’ I think I felt, it’s like I was trying to sometimes over calculate how much I’ve talked about certain things. And then you get older and you just go, ‘I don’t know, I’m going to be honest.’ And my honest answer was like, ‘Hell yeah. I’d play Mr. Fantastic.’ And then people were like, ‘Oh my God.’ And I didn’t know it would be headlines. I thought it would just be the eighth question in that interview. But it’s true.”

Despite a crazy amount speculation that he’d make his MCU debut in WandaVision, we’re yet to get any mention of Reed Richards or any of the other Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although it’s only a matter of time now with Spider-Man director Jon Watts on board to direct the Fantastic Four movie once he finishes up with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Whether that will include John Krasinski as Reed Richards and Emily Blunt as Sue Storm, we shall have to wait and see, but let us know on our social channels who you’d like to see cast as Marvel’s First Family…
