Here’s a Christmas gift that was on nobody’s wish-list. Johnny Depp is in advanced to talks to star as legendary seasonal sourpuss Scrooge in Pearl and MaXXXine director Ti West’s Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.
Per Variety’s story the Paramount Pictures project is set to open theatrically on November 13th, 2026. Horror helmer West will direct from a script written by Nathaniel Halpern, who was responsible for the little-seen and utterly brilliant Prime Video series Tales From the Loop.
As well as the news of Depp’s casting, this version of the oft-told-tale will also star Andrea Riseborough (Good Boy) in an unspecified role.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star joins a long list of actors who have portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge on the silver screen, beginning with the iconic 1951 Alastair Sim performance, through Bill Murray, Michael Caine, and finally Jim Carrey’s terrifying mocap monstrosity in Robert Zemeckis’ 2009 A Christmas Carol.
West’s film will be the second high-profile adaptation of Dickens classic tale in production, with Robert Eggers’ working on his own take for Warner Bros.
