Jordan Peele met with Marvel for X-Men and walked away…what happened!?

June 8, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Jordan Peele x Marvel Studios is something most people would clamor for. The visionary filmmaker is known for bold ideas and striking visuals, which would fit nicely into Marvel’s new era, but it didn’t pan out that way.

Rumors swirl that he met with the studio over the MCU Blade project or Midnight Suns, but it seems we finally found out what Peele met with Marvel for. Per One Take News, the meeting was actually for X-Men.

According to their sources, Peele met with Marvel Studios to discuss their X-Men film. It should be noted that the actual meeting took place “a long time ago “and simply “didn’t work out.” It’s indicated that Peele and Marvel walked away on good terms and could work together on something else.

One of the issues reportedly stemmed from Peele likely wanting to pen the script alongside his usual directing duties, much like his previous work, including Get Out, Us, and Nope. If you’ve been following the Marvel Studios news world, that wouldn’t have worked, as Marvel finally landed a writer for X-Men, with Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) set to write the long-awaited film.

This last point would also rule out any chance of a Blade movie, as that film has gone through more rewrites than seemingly any other MCU movie in history.

What could Jordan Peele do in the X-Men universe? Many would be thrilled to see his signature style of mixing box office spectacle and social commentary. Nothing screams the entire point of what X-Men should be more than that. Could that ruffle the feathers of the usual bunch that complain about anything? Sure, look at what happened with X-Men ’97 in its early days. However, Peele has a way of calming down the noise and forcing people to focus on the art, which is what Marvel could use.

While it’s not happening at the time of writing, it’s safe to say Peele isn’t anti-Marvel as you’d expect but wants a singular vision rather than the usual.

Jordan Peele’s next film was initially set for Christmas 2024 but moved to sometime in 2025.
