Josh Brolin says Dune: Part Two will begin shooting in July

April 15, 2022 by Ricky Church

We now have a firmer idea for when Denis Villeneuve and company will begin production on the anticipated Dune: Part Two as according to Josh Brolin, the sequel will begin shooting this July.

Brolin appeared on the talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan where he discussed meeting with his No Country for Old Men and Dune co-star Javier Bardem at last month’s Academy Awards and joked how they both need to get back in shape before filming Dune: Part Two begins in the summer.

“I haven’t quite started working on it,” Brolin said in regards to his workout routine and paunchy stomach. “We start in July, and now is the time. I was with Javier at the Oscars, and we showed each other each other’s paunches, and I said, ‘We have to get ready very quickly.'”

In Dune Brolin played Gurney Halleck, a loyal captain, weapons master and bodyguard of the Atreides family. The last audiences saw of him in Dune was charging into battle as the Atreides army was assaulted by the Harkonnens and, if Brolin’s comment is any indication, Gurney has a lot of fight left in him for the second part. Bardem portrayed Stilgar, a leader of the Fremen who are in conflict with the Harkonnens and took Paul Atreides and his mother Jessica in after they were betrayed.

Though it has not been fully confirmed yet, recent reports said Florence Pugh (Black Widow) and Austin Butler (Elvis) will join Dune: Part Two as Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter, and Feyd-Rautha, Baron Harkonnen’s nephew, respectively. The sequel is currently slated for release on October 20th 2023.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).
