Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to develop Atlantis movie for Universal Pictures

June 23, 2020 by Liam Waddington

While production is set to resume on the third instalment of the Jurassic World franchise, Jurassic World: Dominion, director Colin Trevorrow is also preparing to re-team with Universal Pictures for Atlantis.

In a recent report to Deadline, Atlantis is “a thriller about the mythical city” based on a by Trevorrow and Bridge of Spies screenwriter Matt Chapman but will be written by Dan Harper who penned the Tom Cruise-led Edge Of Tomorrow and Alien: Covenant.

According to the report, “unlike previous incarnations of the mythical city as an underwater kingdom, Trevorrow’s Atlantis is set on a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania. It is a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology.”

Trevorrow originally created the project in 2018 but decided to keep it under wraps to allow his creative team — led by production designer Kevin Jenkins (Star Wars: Episode IX and Jurassic World: Dominion) – to research and expand the story further before committing to a script.

However, Atlantis will most likely not begin production until Trevorrow’s commitments to Jurassic World: Dominion has concluded – the film is currently slated for a June 11th, 2021 release date.
