Justin Lin confirms final two Fast & Furious films will be “one chapter in two movies”

September 22, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Following the successful release of F9: The Fast Saga, it was announced that the next two instalments in the long-running action franchise will mark the end of the main series.

Now, in an interview with Collider, director Justin Lin has confirmed that Fast & Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11 will be “one chapter in two movies” to conclude the story.

“The idea of the last chapter being two films is correct,” Lin said. “I have to say, I’m so glad – because I think when I first entered this franchise, a sequel was not a given. You had to earn it, you know? And so to be sitting here talking to you and go, ‘Oh yeah, there’s gonna be two more movies!’ I’m like, ‘Wow.’ It means a lot. So, every day when I wake up, I’m trying to reconfigure and make sure hopefully whatever we’re talking about process wise is gonna yield the best result. But I think having one chapter in two movies is correct. That’s where I sit today.”

“There’s an ambition of what we want to do and there’s also real world issues that we’re encountering,” Lin said of filming back-to-back. “But I feel like, for me, I don’t want to be greedy. I want to do what’s best for the process.”

While plot details are being kept under wraps for the final two films, we do know that the tenth film will release on 7th April, 2023. Although, the main series is coming to an end, Dwayne Johnson has previously revealed that a sequel to 2019’s spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is currently in the works.

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, the upcoming The Suicide Squad).

The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tbilisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.

F9 sees Justin Lin directing a cast that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron.
