Karen Gillan joins Highlander as Connor MacLeod’s love interest

August 21, 2025 by Ricky Church

The upcoming Highlander reboot is welcoming Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan to its cast alongside Henry Cavill.

Highlander will be a remake of the classic 1986 film with Cavill starring as the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod and John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski directing.

Highlander follows a group of immortal beings sworn to battle ahead of the Gathering, where only one will survive and claim a mysterious Prize.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gillan will play “MacLeod’s mortal wife and the love of his life.” She joins a cast that also includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista and Marisa Abela.

Crowe will play Ramirez, another immortal who trains MacLeod while Bautista will play the villainous Kurgan. There is no word yet on Abela’s role.

Michael Finch wrote the screenplay for the reboot with Lionsgate producing the film. Cameras will begin rolling in London next month.
