Kevin Smith will cameo in Kevin Smith biopic Shooting Clerks

November 27, 2014 by Luke Owen

Partially funded by Indiegogo, Shooting Clerks is a biopic of filmmaker Kevin Smith as he goes from convenience store clerk to shooting a little black and white movie called Clerks in the store he worked in while it was closed.

Kevin Smith, who has blessed the project, has been announced to cameo in the film as a Canadian reporter named Larkin Eve – an anagram of Real Kevin. The film will also feature a cast that includes Ernie O’Donnell, Scott Schiaffo, Vinnie Periera and Betty Broussard.

Shooting Clerks was looking for £27,525 (a nod to Smith’s original Clerks budget) but they only managed around £2,500.

The trio have made other Smith-inspired projects Get Gredo and Babble On Begins, which is based on Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman’s podcast Hollywood Babble On.

“Our dream project has always been to shoot a feature film biopic detailing the struggles a young Kevin Smith encountered while trying to figure out his place in the world. After a short spell at film school he came up with the idea of shooting a feature film in the very convenience store he worked in. Armed with limited resources, ill begotten credit cards and the dedication of long time friends Kevin risked everything to bring his unique vision to fruition. “
