Krysten Ritter doesn’t think she’ll play Jessica Jones again

July 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Months after its wave of cancellations, Netflix’s Marvel universe breathed its last dying breath earlier this month with the arrival of the third and final season of Jessica Jones.

And, while the likes of her fellow Defender Charlie Cox has expressed an interest in returning to the MCU at some point in the future, actress Krysten Ritter has revealed to TV Guide that she feels it is the right time to say goodbye to her character.

“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so,” said Ritter, who played the hard-drinking P.I. in three seasons plus The Defenders team-up. “I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”

UPDATE: Ritter has since taken to Twitter to clarify her comments, stating that she would reprise the role in “a heartbeat” should the opportunity arise.

I would play JJ again in a HEARTBEAT – she’s the coolest character ever and I love her! Hey, you never know what the future holds 🤪 As for now I’m so proud of the long run & the deep character work I got to do. It’s been a dream and never say never! https://t.co/donjfIgjvp

At this point, the futures of the Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Punisher characters are up in the air, although one would have to assume that we haven’t seen the last of some – if not all – of the street level heroes. Whether that will be with any of the same cast however remains to be seen.

When Jessica (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down. But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism, and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.

Jessica Jones season 3 features a cast that also includes Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix Trilogy), Eka Darville (Empire), Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Tiffany Mack (Hap and Leonard), Jessica Frances Dukes (The Good Wife), Aneesh Sheth (New Amsterdam) and Rebecca DeMornay (The Hand that Rocks the Cradle).
