Lennie James reveals real reason why Morgan left The Walking Dead

August 21, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Fear the Walking Dead star Lennie James has revealed the real reason why his character Morgan left parent show The Walking Dead.

Morgan’s arrival on Fear the Walking Dead was certainly a major development on the show and has signalled a more connected shared universe between the two AMC zombie series.

Lennie James, the actor behind Morgan, has spoken before about how his former cast members reacted to him leaving TWD but now he has revealed the actual reason that the change took place. Speaking to ScreenRant, James said:

“The conversation I did have with Scott when [the crossover] was first proposed is that there were things that he wanted to explore with Morgan that would be difficult to shoehorn into The Walking Dead. And he thought that because of the smaller cast and the way that the stories are told on Fear that there would be a little more room for it.”

“It was a way of exploring the character on a speed and a level that isn’t possible on The Walking Dead, because there’s so many characters. And it was an opportunity to get a little bit more Morgan-focused in a way that could happen on The Walking Dead, but it would’ve just taken a lot longer.

“And I’m not sure that they could hold onto Morgan in the way that they wanted to hold onto Morgan in the main show, and Fear was a way of exploring him a little bit more before he finishes.”

Are you happy with Morgan’s appearances so far on Fear the Walking Dead and what do you make of the above explanation for the crossover? Perhaps we can expect similar character comings and goings in the near future.

“The first half of season four began with one figure huddled around a campfire, and ended with nine. Characters who started their journeys in isolation collided with each other in unexpected ways and found themselves in one of the last places they ever expected to be…together. In the back half of the season they will explore who they are now – as individuals and as part of the greater group – and how they will forge ahead. They will find themselves pitted against new adversaries – human, walker, and even nature itself. Theirs will be a journey wrought with danger, love, heartbreak, loss, and ultimately, hope.”

Fear the Walking Dead season 4 airs on Sunday nights in the States and on Monday nights in the UK.
