Lionsgate bringing Stan Lee’s Romeo and Juliet: The War to the big screen

December 13, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that 1821 Media and Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment are teaming up with Lionsgate for an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Romeo and Juliet: The War, a futuristic reimagining of the William Shakespeare classic.

“What a treat it is to finally announce our partnership with Lionsgate on a project,” said Lee. “The story of Romeo and Juliet is one of my absolute favorites, and I can’t wait to bring our rendition of this classic to life.”

Romeo and Juliet: The War was created by Stan Lee and Terry Dougas, with Max Work writing and Skan Srisuwan handling the art. The script for the movie adaptation is being penned by by John J. Griffin, while Douglas and Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis of 1821 Media will produce.

“Given their success with franchises such as ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Divergent’ series, Lionsgate is the perfect partner to adapt this graphic novel which is rich in visuals and set in an incredible, futuristic world,” said producers Kasidokostas-Latsis and Dougas.
