Locke & Key to end with third season in “satisfying conclusion”, first-look images revealed

April 8, 2022 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced that the upcoming third season of the supernatural drama Locke & Key is to be its final. Series creators and showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill said a three-season run has always been the plan while Netflix released the first batch of promotional images for the third and final season.

Locke & Key follows three young siblings moving to their late father’s ancestral home after his murder. It’s not long after their move they discover not only their father’s but their family’s secret past with the creation and protection of powerful magical keys and the demons trying to seize them. Together with their friends, the three Locke siblings have to protect the keys and their family while preventing the demons from capturing they keys.

Cuse and Averill said they initially planned for three seasons for the series, which is based on the IDW comic of the same name from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. In a statement, they said:

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”

The third and final season was produced back-to-back with the second. Consisting of eight episodes as opposed to the previous seasons ten, Locke & Key will conclude sometime this fall.

Locke & Key stars Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Laysla De Oliveira, Petrice Jones, Griffin Gluck and Aaron Ashmore.

After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.
